A Baby Bath Tub That Won’t Let You Down (in Fact, You Can Hang It Up!)
When my now 12- and 6-year-old girls were babies, bath time (with bubble bath!) was one of my favorite times to spend with them. I loved seeing their joy as they splashed in the water, and I loved all those sweet post-bathtime cuddles when they were all clean and dry. When my oldest was little, we had a baby bathtub that was perfectly fine, but it was a little clunky, and I never really liked cleaning and storing it. So, when my younger daughter was a baby, we upgraded to the OXO Splash and Store bathtub, which is also one of the parent-picked winners of the 2024 Cubby Nursery Awards. It met all of our needs perfectly. Here’s what made the difference.
What I Look for in a Baby Bathtub
When I was buying my second baby bath tub, here’s what I looked for.
- Safety is non-negotiable. Those first few bath times as a new mom are a little scary, so it was essential that I find a bathtub that stayed in place and kept my baby safe while bathing.
- It needed to be easy to clean. Most baby bath tubs are pretty easy to wipe out when bath time is over, but I wanted one with good drainage to avoid mildew.
- It needed to be collapsible. After a couple of years of moving the baby bathtub around the bathroom, I wanted to find one that could collapse and be stored out of the way.
My Review of the OXO Splash & Store Bathtub
The Bathtub I Tested
Name: OXO Tot Splash & Store Bathtub
Current Price: $69
In the six years between my first and second child, the wizards at OXO came up with a smart, sleek baby tub design that did everything I needed it to. It kept my little one safe as she grew from an infant to a toddler, and it was super simple to clean and store.
What I Really Loved
My favorite thing about the OXO Splash & Store Bathtub was the storage aspect — no wonder they put it right in the name. When bath time was over, I used the drain to let the water run out and then wiped down the tub before collapsing it and hanging it from the shower head. As for bath time itself, I appreciated that there was a little knob in the middle that kept my daughter from slipping down into the water when she was an infant. When she was a little older, I moved her over to the other side where she had a little more room to splash and play, while still staying safely in place.
What I Didn’t Love
This bath tub met our needs perfectly, so I don’t have any negative notes about the way it functions, but, at $69.99, it is a bit on the pricier side — especially compared to the first tub we used. But it helped me to break it down to cost per usage, and with nearly daily use for a solid 18 months, this ended up being a sound investment.
