Estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops were regular weekend destinations for my brother and me as kids. My parents, always on the hunt for period-appropriate decor for our Staten Island 19th-century house, made sure of it. Since then, I’ve had a love for home design and…read more

My 3- and 6-year-olds are big fans of the Toniebox. This super-popular screen-free toy is a favorite for keeping them entertained for hours — especially during their morning and bedtime routines. Now their bedtime has gotten even better with the launch of the new Disney Cuddle Tonies. These new Tonies are a winning combination — they blend the soft adorableness of a stuffie with the engaging stories and songs Tonies are known for.

The Cuddle Tonies are available for $29.99 on the Tonies site and Walmart, in six different characters, but they’re already selling out. My kids are big fans of the Simba option — here’s why.

What Are the Cuddle Tonies?

The soft, gentle Cuddle Tonies are designed for snuggling, which makes them perfect for helping children to wind down at nap time or bedtime. When placed on a Toniebox (sold separately), they play stories and songs with running times between 28 and 39 minutes. They are made of soft fleece that’s easy to clean: Simply machine wash — up to 86°F — with a mild detergent (it is recommended to wash separately in a laundry net on a delicate cycle and air-dry only). The available characters are Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Simba, Olaf, and Stitch. (Note: Olaf and Stitch are currently sold out.)

What I Love About the Disney Simba Cuddle Tonie

When I asked my 6-year-old what he thought about the Simba Cuddle Tonie, he told me, “I love it. It’s so soft, and the stories are good.” A particular highlight for him was the joke riff between Timon and Simba, as he’s a big fan of jokes. His current favorite is, “Did I tell you I lost a race with a big cat the other day? She was a cheetah.”

With a runtime of 36 minutes, the Simba Cuddle Tonie has quickly become a staple in our bedtime routine, and both my sons love to snuggle with it. However, it’s worth noting that the Cuddle Tonies don’t secure to the Toniebox as firmly as the classic Tonies. If your child carries the Toniebox while moving, the Cuddle Tonie might fall off. For the best experience, I recommend using it on a stable, flat surface.
