Estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops were regular weekend destinations for my brother and me as kids. My parents, always on the hunt for period-appropriate decor for our Staten Island 19th-century house, made sure of it. Since then, I’ve had a love for home design and…read more

If your kids love their Toniebox (or Toniebox 2) as much as my 5- and 2-year-olds, you know how quickly those Tonies can start to pile up. With hundreds of characters available, it can be tough to decide which ones are actually worth buying. To help narrow it down, I consulted my two little experts (and a handful of Cubby editors) to go through our massive collections and pick out the best options.

From songs to classic stories, Disney favorites to Pixar adventures, these are the best Tonies to grab for the holidays. Good news: You can currently save 25% on Tonies, Tonieboxes, and accessories on the brand’s website through December 2, with even deeper discounts on select items. They don’t do big sales like this too often, so now is the time to get shopping and snag your kid’s new favorite Tonie.

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood Tonie
$20$15

My 5-year-old was very into this Daniel Tiger Tonie when he was younger, and now it’s found a fan in my 2-year-old. There are so many cute songs and stories (runtime 29 minutes) — it feels like watching an episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. We listen to this one at snacktime, and I love that the TV isn’t on.

National Geographic Kids: Dinosaur Tonie
$20$15

Principal Project Manager Anna says, “My 4-year-old loves this one! It's really educational, so it's not a story per se, but he loves it!” She adds, “The age for it is 6 plus, but I think if you have a preschooler who's into dinos, it's perfect.” And with a runtime of 74 minutes, it gives plenty of dinosaur action.

Singer Creative-Tonie
$10$8

Having a Creative Tonie in your collection is a must-have. Special Projects Director Alison says, “We filled this one with all of our son's favorite songs when he turned 3 and a half, and he loves that he can play and control his playlist himself.” Adding music to the Tonie is easy, and there are lots of free stuff on the app, too, from songs to stories and educational content.

Maestro Tonie
$20$13

I personally love listening to the Maestro Tonie. It’s an excellent way for my kids to absorb some classical music and learn at the same time. With a runtime of 75 minutes, it includes long and short pieces of music and narration from real-life conductor Duncan Ward. There are fun facts about instruments, tempo, and more.

My First Tonies: Farm Set
$40$30

This is a pick from my 2-year-old son. He likes to make sounds along with the farm animal Tonies and also uses them as toys away from the Toniebox. The set comes with a soft and squeezable horse, cow, and pig, featuring about 12 minutes each of songs and simple stories. It’s one of Tonies’ My First Tonies collection aimed at younger kids, which also includes jungle animals and travel vehicles.

Disney Frozen: Elsa Tonie
$20$15

My 5-year-old niece was Elsa for Halloween and has been listening to this Frozen Tonie nonstop. It features four songs and the story from the movie, and you can even get an Olaf and Anna Tonie to go with it. There’s a runtime of 24 minutes, and it’s a Tonie bestseller for good reason.

Julia Donaldson: The Gruffalo Tonie
$15$13

Narrated by Dame Imelda Staunton, this storytelling Tonie of The Gruffalo is absolutely worth it, even with a runtime of just 17 minutes. Once the tale is over, Staunton also sings an original song about the Gruffalo. My son always comments on the mouse's cleverness, which sparks a fun conversation between us about the mouse's strategy to trick the other forest animals.

Disney The Lion King Tonie
$20$15

The Lion King Tonie is a must-have for fans (and even casual viewers) of the movie. The 30-minute runtime features Rafiki narrating Simba’s full story, followed by four beloved songs from the film. My son, who picked this one, said it best: "It’s a great story!"

Piney: The Lonesome Pine Tonie
$20$12

My family wasn’t familiar with the Piney: The Lonesome Pine book or movie, but my sons were immediately on board with the Tonie. My preschooler said, “It’s a great adventure!” And I love that it gets us in the holiday spirit. There’s a runtime of 45 minutes, and it includes the story of the film, the book, and two cute songs.

Pinkalicious Tonie
$20$15

The Pinkalicious books and cartoons were also not on my family’s radar, but that hasn’t stopped my son from being really into this storytelling Tonie. I asked him what he liked about it, and he said, “The stories are really good!” They’re all about kindness, confidence, being yourself, and more, and include a 60-minute runtime.

Disney & Pixar Monsters, Inc. Tonie
$20$15

One of my favorite parts of the Monsters Inc. Tonie is the narration from character actor Dom DeLuise. He adds flair to every part of the narration, and the 33-minute runtime seems to fly by. Three original songs on the Tonie add to the Monstropolis world.

Gabby's Dollhouse Tonie

This is another special pick from my niece. It’s sold out at the moment on the Tonies website, but you can get it at Kohl’s (the retailer is offering a buy one Tonie, get another for 50% off for Black Friday). The Tonie includes a 48-minute runtime and two adorable stories that feel like you’re watching the show.
