Oeuf’s Much-Anticipated New Bed Is the Low Toddler Canopy Bunk Bed We’ve Been Waiting For
If you’ve been reading Cubby for any amount of time, you know that we are big fans of Brooklyn-based design studio, Oeuf. You’ll find their Perch Bunk Bed in our best bunk beds guide; their River Twin Bed in our best kids’ beds guide; and their Classic Toddler Bed in our best toddler beds guide. Both my girls slept on Oeuf’s classic toddler bed for eight years (four years for each girl) before they outgrew it and I passed it down to my niece. My oldest now has the Perch bunk bed. I purchased them myself; they were not gifted! So, truly, I am a fan.
All of which is why I’m very excited to share with Cubby readers that Oeuf has a brand new bed, just launched today — their first new bed in years. The Perch Nest Bed is a shorter version of the beloved Perch Loft Bed, making it the perfect first bunk for toddlers and little kids. But it’s not just lower to the ground; it’s also flippable! It can be set up as a loft bed, a bunk bed, or (our favorite!) a canopy bed if you flip it over and add a trundle and some curtains. So great! Here’s more about how the Perch Nest Bed came to be:
“Every kid needs a little sanctuary to call their own,” says Oeuf co-founder Sophie Demenge. Standing at 50 inches off the ground (about 14 inches shorter than the Perch Loft bed), the new Perch Nest Bed is designed to give kids (and their parents!) lots of ways to set up the bed so that one bed can take you through many different ages and stages. “It’s perfect for sleepover forts and endless fun,” says Demenge. We couldn’t agree more!
Here’s a look at the possible life of the Perch Nest bed:
- Start in the loft setup with a top mattress and ladder and use the space underneath as play space, fort space, or for a Montessori floor bed or mattress, like this.
- Convert to a toddler bunk bed by putting a mattress on the bottom, like this.
- Then, flip it over to create the makings of a canopy bed, like this. (Oeuf is currently developing custom curtains for the bed! In the meantime, that’s a DIY addition.)
- Finally, add a trundle for sleepovers, like this!
Like the rest of Oeuf’s furniture line, the Perch Nest Bed is made of FSC Baltic birch plywood and eco-MDF. It’s sustainably produced in Europe in an FSC certified facility and is GREENGUARD Gold certified. All the finishes are non-toxic, water-based, and free of VOCs.
While I’m talking about Oeuf, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that they also make some of the cutest kids’ clothes around, most made of either linen, a linen-cotton blend, or baby alpaca. (Their alpaca cardigans and hats are the softest!) My daughter wore one of their classic dresses for three birthdays in a row, and when she outgrew it her sister got it. Do you see a pattern here? Their stuff is so well made, which makes them great hand-me-downs.
