“No-Peek Chicken” Is the Most Delicious 5-Ingredient Dinner You’ll Make This Week
If you’ve spent some time scrolling through TikTok the past month or so, then chances are you’ve heard of “no-peek chicken.” In case you’re wondering, there is, in fact, a good reason for this particular name.
The idea at hand is that you put everything together in a baking dish (which consists of just five easy-to-find ingredients), cover it with foil, put it in the oven, and forget about it! The catch is, as you expected, that you can’t look or peek underneath until it’s completely done in just one quick hour!
Trust us, though, those 60 minutes are more than worth the wait. “No-peek chicken” is arguably the easiest yet most delicious dinner I’ve made in a long time, and it requires virtually no effort at all.
The recipe for “no-peek chicken” has a few very subtle variations on TikTok, but overall it typically includes 2 cups of instant white rice, two 10-ounce cans of cream of chicken soup, sliced seasoned chicken breasts, and a packet of onion soup mix. (You also can use 1 cup of water or 1 cup of chicken broth, although we aren’t counting water as an ingredient in this recipe).
To make the super-simple dish, add the rice, cream of chicken soup, and water or chicken broth to a 9×13-inch baking dish and stir to combine. Season your chicken breasts with your desired seasonings and lay on top of the rice mixture. Lastly, sprinkle the top of the chicken and rice with the packet of onion soup mix. Cover the dish tightly with foil and place in a 350˚F oven and bake for 1 hour — undisturbed!
The results? Super-creamy and rich rice and perfectly seasoned chicken that isn’t dry or overcooked. The best part is, though, you barely have to do anything. It’s all a matter of adding everything to the dish in the right order and letting the oven do the work.
I tried this recipe out for myself and was more than pleased with the final product! Because I was just making this for me, however, I scaled down the recipe by cutting it in half and using an 8×8-inch baking dish. I included 1 cup instant rice, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of water, about 2 sliced chicken breasts, and half a packet of onion soup mix. (I also used my favorite seasoning blend, although you can use whichever mix you have.)
Some variations that I’ve often seen on TikTok include using a mix of cream of chicken and cream of celery or mushroom soup. Some people also sear their chicken before placing it on top of the rice mixture and putting it in the oven, although I personally didn’t find this necessary!
All in all, the amazing thing about this recipe — aside from how easy it is, of course — is that it’s customizable. Use whichever seasonings you want and swap in whatever condensed soup you like! The choice is all yours.
