Even when you try to live a minimalist lifestyle, there are certain items that just accumulate — toys, books, LEGOs, you name it. For my family, it’s shoes. Rain boots, snow boots, soccer cleats, ballet slippers, sandals, sneakers, dress shoes, play shoes, house slippers — my daughter alone has close to 10 pairs of shoes she wears on a regular basis.

In an attempt to keep my mudroom organized, I recently bought a shoe storage bench similar to this one, and it has made an enormous difference. That combined with getting rid of shoes we no longer wear has helped quell the seemingly never-ending pile of shoes to outfit our family of five. If your shoe situation is as overwhelming as mine, a shoe storage solution would probably make a big difference for your family, too. Here, we curated a list of 10 different kids’ shoe storage solutions, from traditional shoe racks to cute baskets that your kids can take ownership of — and actually use.

Especially when you’re short on space, you can’t beat a classic over-the-door hanging shoe organizer. They keep pairs together and clutter out of sight. What’s nice about this one is that the pockets are clear, so kids can see exactly what they’re looking for. Depending on how big your kids’ shoes are, you might be able to maximize space by fitting two shoes in each pocket, instead of one.

Another excellent option for small spaces is this rolling under-bed storage bin. The metal construction is durable, and the rope handles also add a bit of fun for your kids. The bin is on the smaller side, so consider getting one for each child.

This hybrid bench-shoe storage cubby is perfect for the mudroom, garage, or front entryway. It’s available in espresso and brown, rustic brown and brown, and white and gray. The bench provides an ideal spot for kids to sit down while they learn to tie their shoes or for you to relax while you wait for the rest of the family to get ready to head out the door.

No matter how adorable your kids' shoes are, they get dirty and scuffed quickly. That’s why I love this storage cabinet with drawers to hide shoes — ingenious. It has a narrow footprint, and it actually attaches to the wall while giving the appearance of being a freestanding cabinet. Nobody would ever guess that it’s full of shoes!

West Elm
$139.00

This best-selling West Elm bamboo shoe bench will match many home styles. The bamboo is moisture-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about putting damp shoes on the shelves, although I would refrain from using it for soaking wet shoes fresh from a rainstorm. This bench isn’t huge, so it would work nicely in a small foyer or even in the corner of a family room, where it can add a little extra seating in addition to shoe storage.

If you struggle to get your kids to put their shoes away, they might be incentivized by this revolving shoe tree. Choose from three or four tiers, as well as three different finishes — bronze, chrome, and white. Each tier is adjustable, making use of vertical space if you store your shoes in a small closet.

Getting your kids to actually use your new organized shoe storage is half the battle. You can make it easier by allowing your kids to choose their own basket, so they can take some ownership, and all they have to do is throw their shoes in. Choose from a koala, an elephant, a lion, and a unicorn.

Just their size, this small shoe rack can hold up to 12 toddler shoes. It’s available in pink, blue, and black. It comes with four racks, but you can remove a rack if you need to store taller shoes like boots.

This pretend play station doesn’t have to be just for dress-up. In fact, it’s an ideal spot to encourage your child to put their shoes and coats away themselves, as it’s just their size. This can help them learn to be independent and tidy up after themselves.

If you have a lot of shoes to store, this stackable cabinet holds up to 72 pairs of adult shoes, which means that it likely holds even more kid shoes. Depending on your space, you can split up the cabinets to create shoe storage in various places in your home. Each storage cubby also has a cover, which helps you keep your shoes out of sight, out of mind.
