Lamps are such a low-effort way to bring a dose of personality to a room. And while some lamps can definitely be on the pricier side, there are plenty of retailers — like IKEA — that sell fun lighting options that don’t break the bank. We’ve already shared some unique, affordable IKEA lamps here on Cubby, and I’ve got one more to add to the roster.

This video from TikTok user mr.harry.white showcases just how easy it is to dress up the IKEA FADO table lamp with one simple switch: Swap out your regular bulb for a stained glass one!

The 10-inch-diameter FADO table lamp, which retails for $29.99 at IKEA, would be perfectly lovely as-is on a dresser or nightstand in a kids’ room. The orb-shaped lamp is sleek and unassuming, and would blend with most styles. But what often makes shopping for kids’ decor so fun is the opportunity to bring a little more whimsy into the mix — and adding a stained glass light bulb definitely achieves that. It creates a beautiful rainbow effect, and adds a warm glow that would cozy up any room.

My favorite thing about this idea is how versatile it is. Maybe you already have a similar white glass lamp (this one from Quince is a real stunner) at home, and you’ve been looking for a way to jazz it up. All you have to do is run out and grab a stained glass light bulb, and you’ve instantly “kid-ified” it — in a totally tasteful and understated way.
