This Headboard Has a Secret, Special Feature — Can You Figure Out What It Is?
When looking for bed frames to complete your child’s bedroom, you could choose from an array of upholstered headboards, or you could go a completely different route. As kids grow up, what they believe is cool or fun might change drastically daily — so instead of investing in a permanent bed, you might consider peel-and-stick wallpaper as a more temporary solution.
At least that’s what designer Charlotte Smith did in her 13-year-old daughter’s room in their colorful Connecticut home. Did you figure out the secret? It’s a DIY peel-and-stick headboard! Here’s how she did it.
A DIY Peel-and-Stick Headboard
Noting that her daughter is 13, Smith said that she definitely had opinions about how she wanted her space to look and feel. However, her involvement led to the two of them sharing a special bonding activity. “She is very sweet, and she does let me come in and do some design every once in a while,” Smith said at the time of her house tour.
Together, the pair picked a light gray, peel-and-stick wallpaper pattern, cut it in a rounded shape, and hung it on the wall behind the bed frame. Smith’s daughter also has a traditional purple, marble-inspired headboard, but having the wallpapered shape behind the bed makes both patterns pop.
“This is a great way to use wallpaper in an unconventional way. It’s budget-friendly, and it is a great solution for a small space or really any bedroom,” Smith shared during her house tour.
But this isn’t the only DIY hack that Smith has completed in her vibrant, maximalist home. To learn more about her other projects, visit the full house tour on Apartment Therapy.
