When Nicole, who lives in Sydney, Australia, designed this nursery for her son, Remy, she was actually going for something minimalist. However, that’s not how it turned out! “If you can believe it, this room is my minimalist approach to styling,” she told Apartment Therapy. “I thought it was a calm and subdued space, but I can see from the images that I’ve managed to create another colorful, eclectic room.”

“I put together this room before our baby was born and we did not know the gender, so I wanted to keep it neutral…but as you can see I’m not a neutral kind of girl…when it comes to colors at least. It started with a bright, gallery white canvas and the colors evolved to include a lot of turquoise, bright orange and red. I love it!”

“This room used to be a desert green color, but I wanted to freshen it up with a bright white. We’ve kept the handmade palette daybed in the room for comfort.”

“I moved the hello sunshine sign that I made years ago from above our bed to above the IKEA crib. We ended up with a sea theme without really trying; the mobile is a thrift store find, the ship is a black pirate ship kite from Bali that I painted white (this took dayyyyssss) and all of the other items are collected from travels around the world. There is a postcard from Morocco, stuffed seahorse and loteria board from Mexico City, star and moon porcelain ceramics from Paris, paper flying fish from Tokyo and more.”

“A favorite ornamental piece in his room is his framed feet and handprint from when he was 3 weeks old- that was tricky to do…hence why there is only one hand!”
