We Love the Blue Striped Walls and Colorful Storage Crates In This Barcelona Kid’s Room
Agni Tilla, who owns a colorful home in Barcelona, wanted to create an incredible bedroom for her son Noa, who she describes as a “positive and active toddler.” However, the existing room posed some unique design challenges.
“We started with bed placement and then created everything around it,” Agni shares. “It was harder to design this room as it didn’t have much character, and the window was very high.”
So, to infuse some personality in the space, Agni consulted Noa (he gave feedback throughout the process) and started to transform his room. “The wallpaper and different textiles, I think, helped to make it more cozy,” Agni explains. Blue and white stripes on the walls add visual intrigue without being overbearing, while items like the colorful bins under his bed add pops of color. (They’re also functional — remember this cute kid’s room with its colorful storage crates?)
Regarding functionality, Agni has some tips for ensuring a kid’s room — no matter the size — works for them.
“I try to place toys in the level the kid can access it. For example, in Noa’s room the boxes under the bed are with his toys as he usually plays right there on the floor,” she shares. “Also, for ages zero to six, I find that instead of the closet space, just a big chest for drawers is more convenient, and when kids start to dress themselves, they can use the bottom drawers to do it themselves.”
Agni loves how the colors create a happy space, and Noa loves dancing next to his Yoto music player or building Legos in his room (here are some tips for storing Legos, too). But this isn’t the only happy room in the apartment. To see more, visit the full home tour on Apartment Therapy.
