Some parents strictly follow the four gift rule for major holidays: something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. Others (like me) just think it’s important to continually expose kids to new and exciting books. Regardless of where you fall on the gift-giving spectrum, giving a kid a new book is always a good idea.

Kids are never too young or too old for books, and as one of my favorite authors famously said, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book” (That can be attributed to a one J.K. Rowling). From simple board books for babies to suspenseful chapter books your older kids won’t be able to put down, there is a book out there for everyone. Below, we rounded up 26 of the best books for kids — there’s bound to be something here your young reader will enjoy.
