It’s hard to wait for the holidays to arrive — especially when you’re a kid. But Advent calendars can be a fun way to count down as a family, while sprinkling in small bits of whimsy along the way.

In case you’re not familiar, Advent calendars are traditionally used to count down the days left until Christmas. Many of them are designed to be opened on December 1, with little goodies commemorating each of the 24 days in December leading up to Christmas.

If this sounds like a holiday tradition worth signing up for (it’s a lot easier than Elf on the Shelf, I swear!), you’ll find a massive selection of family-friendly Advent calendars to choose from. Some calendars serve up treats, while others offer small toys or crafts to help the weeks fly by.

Advent calendars can also be a great way to test a child’s interest in some of the bigger gifts you might be purchasing for them to unwrap on Christmas morning this year (don’t invest in a full Magnatiles set without trying out the brand’s Advent calendar below!).

Ultimately, no matter what your child is into, there’s a great calendar for them. These are the best Advent calendars for kids and families this season.
