When Sarah Blumer was designing their colorful Pittsburgh home, she knew she wanted to lean into color, pattern, and whimsy. One easy way to do that was to take two bland, bi-fold closet doors in the home and completely transform them with paint and a little abstract design! Check out what she did:

The second closet, in its new colorful glory. We love the scalloped detailing.

Since Blumer had a lot of bright colors left over from their previous home, she didn’t stop at the closets. For about $50, she also painted a fun mural for her daughter’s bedroom. “I was scrolling Pinterest for mural inspiration for my daughter’s room when I came across Martcellia Liunic’s work,” Sarah shared at the time of the house tour. “Her paintings are so happy and fun, and I wanted to add some characters inspired by her work to my daughter’s room.”

Painting the room took Blumer two weeks to complete, and she had a lot of fun doing it. “Both the mural on the wall and the painted closet doors are simple but impactful DIYs,” Blumer said. Her favorite part of the room is the natural light that oozes through the windows, which likely accentuates the mural’s colors. On the other hand, Blumer’s daughter loves the pink chair, where she craftily convinces her parents to read her five to 10 books every night.

“It’s such a cheerful space! It makes it extra sweet and special that my kid named all of the characters on the wall after members of the family,” Blumer explained at the time of the house tour.

If you love the colors featured in Blumer’s daughter’s room, you must see the rest of their home. Visit the full house tour on Apartment Therapy to see more.
