As an avid Aldi shopper, I’ve noticed that there’s a highly underrated section in the store. Do you have any guesses? I would say the wine section (when the law allows), gets plenty of love. Ditto for the freezer section. And the chocolate section. What am I thinking about? The bakery aisle!

Stocked with squishy sandwich breads (that make the best PB&Js!), sweet Hawaiian rolls, buttery brioche, and more, these baked goods are some of my favorite items to bring home week after week. While Aldi doesn’t have an on-site bakery, the freshness of every loaf I’ve tried speaks to the popularity and quick turnover in this section. Nothing sits there long enough to go stale!

With so many varieties of breads, boules, and baguettes, how can you know which one is the very best to bring home? I’ve done that work for you. If there’s one loaf of bread you should buy at Aldi, it’s Simply Nature’s Thin-Sliced Graintastic (or Seedtastic) Bread.

Simply Nature Thin-Sliced Graintastic or Seedtastic Bread, $4.35 for 20.4 ounces

When you’re shopping for the ingredient that will take a sandwich from good to great, look no further than theses loaves from Aldi’s Simply Nature line. Each slender slice has a hearty serving of seeds and grains for flavor and texture. And if you experience delicious deja vu while biting into this bread, it is because it is eerily similar to Dave’s Killer Bread. Aldi has baked up a name-brand dupe so convincing that in a side-by-side ingredient examination and taste test, Kitchn’s Executive Lifestyle Director Lisa Freedman and her fellow tasters found them so similar the slices were even confused at one point!

A veggie-packed sandwich like this California sandwich begs to be built on seedy slices. It doesn’t stop with sandwiches; the Simply Nature Seedtastic and Graintastic slices also make a satisfying sweet or savory French toast. Toss a few slices into a food processor and once the seedy slices are crumbs, use them to top crisp and crunchy romaine. Of course, it shines in the simplest of preparations as well — toasted and spread with some of the best butter.
