A s’mores party is most fun, I think, when you have a creative array of options to cobble together over-the-top treats. My sister and I brainstormed crazy s’mores for weeks, including these pretty rad key lime s’mores. Together, we rounded up 12 of the most popular s’mores ideas, including two savory s’more sandwiches. Plus, if you can’t get enough of that delicious flavor combo, we’ve also rounded up seven delicious s’mores recipes you can whip up in the kitchen.

My sister had the bright idea of using those individually-wrapped Ghirardelli squares, which are just the right size for a s’more. They also are thin and more delicate than, say, a Hershey bar, and they come in a lot of fun flavors.

My sister went a little crazy and put bacon on a s’more with the Ghirardelli salted caramel chocolate. One of my favorites was the cinnamon caramel s’more, with dulce de leche smeared over the cracker (crazy sweet, but so good). A lot of people at our party went straight for the peanut butter, and others loaded up on the chocolates filled with raspberry jam.

But the most popular s’mores, to our surprise, were the savory options. This was another great idea my sister had: Why not offer some savory fillings? We put out Carr’s whole wheat crackers, which are hearty, thick, and a little sweet, with mozzarella balls, goat cheese, prosciutto, arugula, and herbs. Our guests ate all of this up — it was nice to have something savory in the middle of all that sweetness.

For the more traditional s’mores, we used the classic technique: roast your marshmallows, then quickly sandwich the whole thing together, letting the hot marshmallow soften the chocolate.

But for the savory s’mores, which of course had no marshmallow involved, it worked better to cook the entire sandwich in a cage-style s’mores maker, like this one from Rome Industries. That way the cheese melted and the cracker got toasted. Here are some of the most popular combinations!
