The mini sheet cakes at Trader Joe’s are some of the best desserts the grocery store has to offer. I’d even go as far to say that it’s one of the best grocery store desserts I’ve ever tried! The adorable little cakes come in a variety of year-round and seasonal flavors.

Some of my favorites are the chantilly cream vanilla bean (try stacking it to make a delicious last-minute dessert), pumpkin cream cheese, and carrot cake. The latest addition to this already-impressive lineup is the grocer’s first-ever gluten-free mini sheet cake.

It’s a Yellow Mini Sheet Cake, and fans (including myself) couldn’t be more excited. I finally got my hands on the freshly launched cake after two trips to the grocery store (it was sold out the first time). Here’s my full review.

What You Should Know About the Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake

Trader Joe’s typically has vanilla and chocolate flavors as mainstays on shelves, and rotates different seasonal flavors throughout the year. (Keep your eyes peeled for the lemon one this spring.) I’m not entirely sure if this yellow cake is a seasonal release or will be added to the permanent mini sheet cake roster. Time will tell!

The cake itself features gluten-free yellow cake with a thick chocolate buttercream frosting. It’s 18 ounces and currently priced at $5.99.

My Honest Review of the Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake

I won’t lie: Going into this review I sort of assumed that the cake itself would be just fine, but nothing compared to the buttery richness of the gluten-full versions of Trader Joe’s mini sheet cakes. (That sort of moist texture just feels hard to achieve with gluten-free desserts.) But after one bite, my mind completely shifted. This cake is heavenly.

This cake has a soft, buttery crumb — like any great yellow cake — that’s sweet, but not too sweet. You’d really never be able to tell that it’s gluten-free. The chocolate buttercream is decadent and creamy and everything I want (and hope for) in a frosting.

The two together are just magic. I’ll keep buying this mini sheet cake while the stores have it — and I highly encourage you to do the same.
