One night, we had some neighbors over for s’mores and a campfire, and I had the pleasure of overhearing the kids (ages 5, 7, and 8) discussing, in great detail, all the merits of Taylor Swift (it IS Red Season, after all). Even my own 5-year-old could identify her favorite songs, belting out lyrics with gusto. Inspired, I put on my Bluetooth speaker and blared T-Swift’s greatest hits. The kids danced into the night, shouting slightly misrepresented lyrics and swinging their arms happily, as only carefree kids can. It was the best night ever.
This impromptu singing and dance party lit up my gift-giving senses, very finely honed this time of year. What if I could give this gift of song and dance to my kiddo year-round? Enter: The Mood Singing Machine, a bright and kid-friendly karaoke machine that actually hooks up to your Bluetooth devices (no CDs or tapes required)! With tons of karaoke-friendly tunes on Spotify and other music streaming apps, there’s an endless amount of musical fun to be had.
When The Mood Singing Machine arrived, I could not keep my daughter from tearing the package open immediately. It comes in three fun colors (turquoise, purple, and pink), so you can customize for your kiddos. We immediately plugged it in and connected to Bluetooth — a “set up” process that took all of 30 seconds. Thankfully, we had a huge library of kiddo music on Spotify, so she grabbed her microphone and started belting out all her favorite tunes right away. We’ve had hand-me-down karaoke machines before, but what makes this one so fun is that you aren’t tied to any particular music. It also sounds clearer than other machines we’ve used, and has a ton of volume controls (a must for parents, IYKYK!).
There’s a neat echo effect, which lets your kids pretend they’re singing on-stage to a stadium of thousands. And you can even activate the color-changing LED light function, making for a fun night-time experience too. At my house, The Mood Singing Machine is constantly plugged into the wall and my daughter rushes to it when she gets home from school. I love how it’s an independent activity that also happens to be wildly imaginative (and adorable, let’s be honest). Sometimes, she forgoes the Bluetooth altogether and makes up her own songs!
My husband and I will also join in with the second microphone (sold separately) and we’ll duet with her — something she finds very silly. Though she’s an only child, I can only imagine how fun this would be as a sibling gift, even among kids whose ages are farther apart. Note: if you’re buying for multiple kids, you may want to get another microphone for optimal cuteness and fun. As a holiday or birthday gift, you can add some rock-star gear (sunglasses, feather boas, sparkly jackets) and let them croon to their hearts’ content. (Don’t forget to keep your phone handy for capturing videos!)
With shipping delays projected, it’ll be more important this year to shop early — and shop the deals while you’re at it!
