If you’re looking to treat your child’s teacher for the holidays or the end of the year, teacher appreciation gifts are a thoughtful way to do it. The thing is, with a dozen or two other parents buying gifts for the same teacher at the same time, it’s surprisingly tricky to find something they’ll actually use. Of course, it’s the thought that counts, but to uncover the best teacher gifts, I polled my sister, who’s been an elementary school teacher for 12 years. She filled me in on the things she and other teachers kindly don’t need more of (mugs with their names on them, which make them difficult to donate down the road) and the things they’d gladly receive (Paper Mate Flair Felt Tips Pens, IYKYK).

The following 26 teacher gifts range from $5 to $100, so you can shop based on your budget, or choose a larger gift to go in on with multiple parents. Pairing a small gift with a note saying how much that teacher means to your child, a note or drawing from your child, or a gift card (Amazon, Target, or school supply sites like Lakeshore) is sure to earn you a proverbial gold star.

38MM Personalized Library Stamps

Teachers may not need another monogrammed mug, but a personalized book stamp? That’s a different story.
