I promise I’m not the type of person who starts pushing back-to-school items on you right after the Fourth of July. But Target has a pencil case that keeps selling out because it’s just that good for organizing and you’re going to want to pick up two, I promise. Sure, a pencil case is (obviously) great for holding school supplies, but Target shoppers have found so many great organizing solution uses for this find that stretch far beyond the halls of fifth grade. So technically it’s not necessarily a back-to-school find, but I promise you’ll want to use this back-to-school staple for just about everything.

“They’re back!” Meri from DLTree Target Ross Finds on Instagram wrote in a recent caption, first posted on July 1. “The hard sided zipper pencil case is $3.99. Run before [it] sells out.”

“Need this,” one person commented on Meri’s post. Another person said, “Ooo yay! I need a new one. Mine cracked. Used it as a tissue holder for the car.”

Other people have gotten creative with these cases, too. Over on TikTok, moms are showing how they’re perfect for organizing your bedroom closets to keep kids’ toys clutter-free because they’re compact, clear, and easy for little hands to manage. Nate Berkus shared a similar storage hack for keeping bedroom clutter at a minimum after his son’s LEGOs threatened to swallow the room whole.

And some use them for taking snacks or to keep track of clothing changes while on the go. The hard shell keeps snacks from getting crushed and clothes from getting wet if you’re spending the day at the beach or water park.

Unfortunately, as Meri warned, the cases have already sold out online. But depending on the stock in your nearest Target, you can order the case online and pick these up at the store. Or, you can take your chances, roll the dice, and head to your local Target to see if they’re still on the shelves.

These pencil cases are so much more than back-to-school essentials. You’ll find endless ways to use them in your home, car, and tote bag, so run to Target now to see if you can get your hands on them before they’re gone (yet again!).
