Before and After: This Plain White House Transformed Into the Cutest Colorful Storybook Cottage
It’s no surprise that even the exterior of professional color consultant Brandi Katherine Herrera’s (@alivelymanner) home has a well-thought-out color palette. When she moved into her Omaha, Nebraska, cottage in 2023, it was all very gray and white — and that includes on the outside, too.
You can see how Brandi infused the inside of her home with color here, and she calls the exterior transformation “an extension” of the colors used on the inside.
Paint made a major difference in the exterior transformation.
“I used tints of the blue-green and blue-violet that you see in the interior,” Brandi says. Her paint color choices are Sherwin-Williams’ Supreme Green for the main facade and blue-violet (Sherwin-Williams’ Wondrous Blue) for the porch roof. Meanwhile, the outline and the window panes of the house received a fresh white coat of paint — Sherwin-Williams’ Pure White, to be exact.
“The bold red-orange door is repeated in a number of elements throughout the interior,” Brandi adds. (That’s Backdrop’s Bada Bing!)
The run-down elements got much-needed repairs.
Brandi also had the shutters removed, trim repaired, and the back porch rebuilt. “The landscaping is a work in progress!” Brandi says. “We plan to do a lot more with it next spring when we have the budget.”
For now, she’s created a cozy spot to sit outside with old-school Crosley and IKEA metal chairs, a new porch light, a side table, a bench that she painted, and a vintage-style glider. One of Brandi’s favorite details is the hand-painted Etsy house-number plate.
