If you spend the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve blasting Pentatonix songs, you might want to consider adding a new children’s book by one of the group’s co-founders to your family’s holiday celebrations. Fa La La Family, available for purchase now, celebrates the beauty of spending the season with family — however that looks for you.

Written by Grammy Award-winning co-founder of Pentatonix Scott Hoying and his husband, Mark Hoying, with illustrations by Steph Lew, Fa La La Family declares, “Maybe it’s your mom and you. Maybe it’s a dad or two. Maybe it’s a furry friend. Family is love, whoever who!”

Scott and Mark are currently preparing to welcome their first baby, and they hope this book will show their child and other children that families can look so many different ways. “Whether it be a single-parent home, or maybe you’re raised by your grandparents, whoever it may be. Especially during the holidays, we really want to showcase that message to the world,” Mark told People

The text of Fa La La Family is also based on a song of the same name on Scott and Mark’s children’s album, M.Y. F.A.M.I.L.Y. Readers will find sheet music and lyrics to the song in the book — just in case they’re inspired to sing along and make reading (and singing) Fa La La Family part of their holiday tradition.

This is the couple’s follow-up to their 2024 children’s book, How Lucky Am I?, which celebrates the idea of gratitude by following the journey of a mayfly, which has a lifespan of a single day.

It’s been a busy season for Scott: He just wrapped up his appearance on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars, alongside pro Rylee Arnold, after the duo was eliminated during Wicked night on October 21. Pentatonix’s latest holiday album, Christmas in the City, debuted on October 24.
