As much as I enjoy cleaning — especially when it’s accompanied by a really captivating audiobook — I’m always in search of tools, products, and methods that help me do it more efficiently. After all, although the process of cleaning bestows its own benefits, the ultimate goal is to create a peaceful, tidy environment in the home.

I love tools that save time by cutting out steps, like my new Tineco wet-dry vacuum that combines vacuuming and mopping in one super-effective, ultra-efficient step. And I’m a huge fan of products that just work — reliably and in multiple scenarios (Bar Keepers Friend is one of my favorites). But the holy grail of time-saving cleaning techniques is one that stretches the time between cleanings.

When I came across a similar product, the Lifeproof Ceramic Coating Spray Kit, via @jillcomesclean on Instagram, I knew I had to try it. The spray, which comes with a really nice microfiber cloth, claims that it “prevents stains, smudges, fingerprints, water-spotting, soap-scum buildup, mineral buildup,” and more. It also promises that dirty surfaces can be cleaned with ease after being treated with the spray. The product is supposed to be effective for a whopping 6 to 12 months. Was it too good to be true?

I was sold on the prospect of fingerprint-free stainless steel alone. I think stainless steel appliances are really pretty, and I love ours, but I don’t love how smudged the front of our fridge gets mere hours after I clean it (no thanks to my busy family of seven). I’ve tried products that claimed to be fingerprint-resistant before, but I remained unimpressed. This coating that promised to repel fingerprints, though, seemed well worth a try. I ordered it immediately.

The instructions said to clean the stainless steel surfaces thoroughly first. Then, simply spritz on the ceramic coating spray and buff it in with the microfiber cloth. The product needs two hours to cure.

I am so thrilled to report that the product works just as promised. I couldn’t believe how well it repelled fingerprints on our fridge! I’m excited to see if the fingerprint repelling lasts as long as it says it will, but honestly, even if it repels prints for a week, I’ll be happy. I can’t wait to try it on other surfaces around the kitchen and all over the house. As a time-saving product that keeps surfaces clean between cleaning sessions, it’s a treasure.
