Lay’s Just Launched 3 Limited-Edition Potato Chip Flavors in the U.S. — And I Can’t Decide Which One I Like the Best

Whenever I travel to a new country, no trip is complete without a visit to a local grocery store. I love strolling through the aisles and seeing the various brands, products, and flavor combinations different cultures offer — especially the ones that aren’t available in the States. (There’s so much you can learn about and sample!) 

It seems this hobby is catching on, too. In fact, “grocery store tourism” has been trending lately on TikTok, with people referring to it as a sightseeing experience in itself. 

If browsing international grocery store aisles is your thing, you’re in luck. Lay’s latest flavor drop lets you sample chips from all over the world — no plane ticket necessary. The brand just launched three new chip flavors in the U.S. inspired by flavors sold abroad: Lay’s Tzatziki (available in Greece), Lay’s Masala (available in India), and Lay’s Honey Butter (available in Korea).

What You Should Know About Lay’s Global Flavors Potato Chips

The globally-inspired chips will be coming to snack aisles near you starting August 12, at retailers nationwide and on snacks.com. They’ll only be available for a limited time (at least, for now), so you’re going to want to snag a bag — or three — ASAP. 

They’re sold in two sizes: a single-serve 2.63-ounce bag for $2.69 and a larger 7.75-ounce bag for $4.99. Lay’s is also offering three lucky winners a trip to each country with a sweepstakes; you can enter by scanning a QR code on the back of the bag.

My Honest Review of Lay’s Global Flavors Potato Chips

Naturally, we at The Kitchn were curious to see how these flavors stacked up, so we ordered some samples and got to snacking. Here’s our honest review. 

1. Lay’s Wavy Tzatziki Flavored Potato Chips

I love a good falafel wrap or bowl, and it just isn’t complete without the cooling and herbaceous tzatziki sauce. I also prefer chips with more of a crunch, so the wavy texture of these chips was really speaking to me. 

To recreate the creamy dip, Lay’s Wavy Tzatziki Chips are made with buttermilk, onion powder, sour cream, yogurt, and garlic powder — and let me tell you, it hits. The flavor is spot-on and captures the essence of tzatziki perfectly. Both the dill and cucumber come through. This was by far my favorite of the three, and many staffers at The Kitchn agreed.

“I’m team tzatziki! It’s a thicker chip, which I look for, and has the waves for extra cronch?!,” says Mara, senior editor, groceries. “The dill really pops and adds an unexpected brightness to the party. I would definitely layer these on a sandwich at the beach and pretend I’m in Greece.” 

The chips even inspired our team members to come up with fun riffs. Take Ola, our culinary assistant, who says she’d “use it as a breading in place of breadcrumbs.”

2. Lay’s Honey Butter Flavored Potato Chips

I haven’t had many sweet chips in my day, and this Korean-inspired flavor pleasantly surprised me. Lay’s Honey Butter Chips are coated in a mix of sugar, salt, butter, honey, and buttermilk that results in a nicely balanced sweet and salty chip. It reminded me of kettle corn (without the corn flavor, obviously). 

Once again, samplers were impressed with the buttery taste and light texture of these chips. As she took a bite, Ola said, “The honey is coming through! And the butter! It’s perfectly seasoned on the chip.” Mara could also really taste the pat of butter. “I can see the knife I use to schmear butter.” 

Many editors proclaimed this flavor their favorite and would happily buy another bag — and experiment with it, too. “These would be great in a kitchen sink cookie!,” says Ali, our associate editor, groceries.

3. Lay’s Masala Flavored Potato Chips

Lay’s Masala Chips are coated in a blend of sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, tomato powder, turmeric, and paprika. Straight off the bat, you get the spices and the tomato-y flavor often found in many Indian dishes like chicken tikka masala. The chips have a bright, acidic note cutting through, “almost like a squirt of lemon,” Mara says. 

They took Ola on a ride: “Whoa I just got a plethora of different flavors. There’s a build. It starts with cumin, then I get paprika, and then tomato.” 

The masala chips were the standout for Reece, too, our associate manager, brand activation, who said, “These are my fave! I love a chip with a bit of kick.”
