This Family Fit an Entire Laundry Room Inside Their Kitchen Cabinet — Here’s How
Italian-born Anatolia of London wanted a space for her family of four that had all the bells and whistles, despite the kitchen being only 320-square-feet in her 972-square-foot, three-bedroom home. With a few clever, custom tweaks, and hard-working design decisions, she proved it’s possible to get more out of your space than you may think.
The impressive laundry-pantry room hybrid is made from what would be, in Anatolia’s words, an “otherwise wasted corner.” Behind two ordinary kitchen cabinet doors, one half is dedicated to pantry storage with containers for dry goods, spices, cleaning supplies, and other miscellaneous containers. The other half is home to the washing machine, plus a surface directly above that holds a microwave, and a wall-mounted drying rack for clothes. Dryers are far less commonly used in the U.K. compared to the U.S., but she definitely has the space to fit a stackable washer-dryer set if she wanted to.
If you’re impressed, you’re not alone. “Sometimes I forget to show it to my visitors, and when I go to open the doors to get something and I hear them exclaiming ‘WOW!’ because they didn’t expect a whole room behind the cabinet doors!” Anatolia said.
The triangular shape of the room lends itself to being spacious enough to get everything she wanted out of the space, and it’s a great example of using the unique features of your home to your advantage. Anatolia spruced the area up (and added a little personal flare) with a few paintings and signs, some plants and faux flowers, and a few stylish storage containers. Her innovative renovation proves you can take a small kitchen and use every nook and cranny without it feeling overwhelmingly packed. These hidden storage gems are just a few of the smart design solutions in her family’s stunning U.K. home.
