Sometimes, a home’s general aesthetic can make a kid’s room feel more mature than their age. For example, consider Amanda, Philip, and Jasper’s industrial loft in Nashville, Tennessee. The brick walls, open concept floor plan, and historical details make the space feel chic and sophisticated. So, when the couple was decorating Jasper’s bedroom, it was likely a happy challenge to create a nice balance between mature and kid-friendly.

However, they struck that balance seamlessly with a mix of smart furniture (which included clever storage options!) and playful details. Here’s how they made Jasper’s industrial-esque bedroom feel childlike.

A Land of Nod (which is now Crate & Kids) kids desk and vintage chairs from Etsy are the perfect place for Jasper to do homework, craft, or even read a book pulled from the shelves on the opposite wall. The two chairs encourage community while creating, whether that’s Jasper’s friends or parents.

On the opposite wall, there’s a massive chalkboard (similar to this DIY chalkboard wall) where Jasper can let his imagination shine. It’s also a great space-saver — instead of his parents feeling guilty about discarding old artwork, he can easily change up his masterpiece whenever he feels like it.

While the industrial loft is gorgeous, it doesn’t have built-in storage areas for Jasper’s clothes. So, his parents got crafty. Peter Stokes made the bunk bed custom, featuring three deep drawers to store Jasper’s items. Plus, the extra mattress allows for sleepovers, and each bunk is adorned with its own light so it won’t disturb the other sleeper.

Amanda and Philip cleverly mounted an IKEA dresser to the wall so that the space floating between the dresser and the floor could be used for shoe storage.

Besides storage, Jasper’s room is adorned with child-like details, like the red ukulele hanging from the wall, a colorful banner, framed artwork, and a vivid rug that inspires fun.
