Girl Scouts’ Newest Cookies Are Crunchy, Covered in Sprinkles, and a Major Win for Kids with Food Allergies
Everyone who has accidentally wound up buying half a dozen boxes of Thin Mints has long known that Girl Scouts are good at selling. So even though their cookie season doesn’t officially start until January in most regions, I shouldn’t be surprised that the organization has optimized its downtime with a big reveal: A brand-new Girl Scout cookie variety called Sparkables will be made without the top nine food allergens, and it’s coming out next year.
Sparkables are oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with sprinkles that look absolutely delicious, but they’re so much more than that. Top nine food allergen-free cookie brand Partake Foods partnered with Girl Scouts to make Sparkables without peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, and sesame (aka the top nine food allergens) in a facility free from those ingredients as well. (Even though several of the other Girl Scout cookie flavors are made without peanuts and other members of the big nine, they’re all manufactured in facilities that contain them, making some cross-contamination possible.)
“This allergy-friendly option is designed so more people can enjoy Girl Scout cookie season,” says Partake Foods CEO Denise Woodard in a promotional video. She founded the company after discovering her own daughter’s food allergies. Many people with food allergies (and the families helping to navigate them) have been left out of the Girl Scout cookie season fun up until this point.
I love the idea that selling cookies like this can also become a lesson in how inclusivity actually benefits everyone by expanding the customer base. “I’m thrilled that Girl Scouts who participate in the cookie program will learn how to talk to different customers about their needs, which helps girls grow their entrepreneurial skills and their businesses,” Woodard adds in the video.
Girl Scout cookie season typically starts in January, and Sparkables will be available for online ordering only starting on January 12, 2027.
That’s not the only new treat joining the cookie lineup in 2027, though. The Girl Scouts also announced that you’ll be able to buy Patch Pals, blueberry-muffin flavored dog treats in the shapes of Girl Scout patches (Girl Scouts, Community, Play, and Exploration), which will also be available exclusively online. Al Roker actually tasted one live on an episode of Today in September (you know, in the name of journalism).
This news comes soon after the release of Cookie Queens, this summer’s inspiring documentary following fierce Girl Scout sellers during their cookie season. The hype has me so hooked, I’m starting to think about how to devote a whole cabinet shelf to next year’s supply.
