Before and After: These First-Time Parents Designed a Classy Nursery That Can Grow with Their Family
Project by: Meena
Location: Ashbury Heights — San Francisco, California
This converted bedroom project comes from first-time parents who recently bought a house in San Francisco. After spending nearly 10 years on the East Coast, they returned back home to the Bay Area to raise their daughter. The family moved in the home when the baby was just two weeks old, so needless to say it was an exhausting and whirlwind experience.
The project included: repainting; removing carpet and exposing and finishing original hardwood; and ripping out existing closet space and rebuilding, including replacing with California Closets.
Several key non-traditional decisions were made, such as getting a large leather armchair for nursing and sitting with baby rather than a classic rocking chair. They wanted something vibrant and colorful for the baby’s visual stimulation, but also something classy that would mesh with the rest of the house and endure over the years as the child gets older. In that vein, with the exception of the crib, they chose other furniture pieces that could be repurposed over time for redesign in other rooms in the house if desired.
