Before loading my kids up in the car to travel, I always make sure to pack a backpack full of activities and toys. The bag is always filled with some old toys that I know they love, as well as some new and exciting toys and activities. I’ve found that the more I prepare, the smoother trips tend to go. Inevitably, I always find myself at Five Below a few days before we leave to stock up on inexpensive activity packs, toys, and books.

If you’re heading on a trip this summer, it’s wise to bring some activity books to help keep your kids occupied. Don’t forget to save some new books for the trip home, too. To help your trip go just a bit smoother, we rounded up some fun and unique activity books you can get at Five Below, from no-mess coloring books for little ones to word searches and guided drawing books for older kids.

Highlights magazines were a staple of my childhood, and I remember loving the hidden pictures in every issue. This book has over 70 hidden picture puzzles; it’s a good one to pass around the car or plane to get everyone involved in the search. You could even make it a contest to see who can find the hidden images fastest.

Magic painting books are another favorite of mine for younger kids or kids who just love to paint. Simply paint with water and the pages transform and burst with color. Just be sure to bring along a water bottle or small container for water. On a recent trip, my daughter found that baby wipes worked just as well to reveal the painted images.
