Our youngest daughter recently graduated from her crib and joined her older two sisters in the big girl bunk room. This means that for the first time in nearly seven years, my wife and I aren’t sharing a bedroom with one of our daughters! To prepare for her arrival, we traded in the double bunk bed that my 5- and- 7-year old shared for a triple bunk bed.

When I announced to my Instagram audience we were in the market for a triple bunk bed, we were inundated with comments such as “What? I never heard of that! Triple bunks exist?” I’m happy to report that YES, triple bunks do exist, and they also come in some incredibly cool varieties. Triple bunks can help maximize floor space and provide families with flexible sleeping options. And as I found, they can also add in some play-based elements to a bedroom!

The Triple Bunk We Chose

My three daughters LOVE sharing this twin triple bunk in the bedroom of our NYC apartment. We chose this bed because the twin-over-twin-over-twin design helps to maximize floor space in their bedroom. I love that the upper two bunks feature extra high, 14-inch guard rails that fully surround the beds. My oldest daughter was initially nervous about sleeping on the top bunk but the features of this bed have made her feel very safe and secure!
